Our Vision, Mission and Values

Vision:
The Metis Nation of Alberta Children and Youth Service’s department envisions a province where Metis children are healthy and respected, families are responsible and all live in safe, caring and inclusive communities.


Mission:
The MNA Children and Youth Service’s helps promotes and develops the capacity of families and communities     to care for and protect vulnerable children and youth, and to maximize the potential of every child in Alberta by supporting healthy child and family development;
 
  
Values:
As an organization, the MNAs Children and Youth Services values:
Partnerships with Alberta Children and Youth Services Ministry and the Alberta Child and Family Services Authorities (CFSAs) through the province, including the Metis Settlements CFSA, Region 10;

MNA Children and Youth services continues to work with all 10 CFS authorities in developing and establishing regional working together agreements to ensure that we work cooperatively to meet the needs of our Metis children. These agreements will reflect a true partnership in respecting traditions, cultures and beliefs; and,
   
Service Excellence:
Providing and supporting our Metis families throughout Alberta with the supports, referrals, identification and registry resources.
    
Dynamic Organizational Culture:
Focusing on continuous learning, respect, accountability, innovation and leadership excellence.

 MNA Children and Youth Services has many responsibilities to the members of the Metis Nation of Alberta which included, but not limited to:

  1. Ensuring that Metis cultural awareness and training is provided at the provincial level to all newly recruited delegated social workers, community stakeholders and to the Children and Families Authorities (CFSAs).
  2. Develop working together agreements with all 10 Child Family Service Authorities CFSAs in Alberta.
  3. Ensure that Metis cultural awareness and training is provided to provincial to all newly recruited delegated social workers, community stakeholders and to the Children and Families Authorities Services (CFSA).
  4. Assist the six MNA regions with proposal writing and obtaining funding opportunities that would benefit their regions.
  5. Provide activity reports to the MNA Minister of Family Wellness.
  6. Provide cultural referrals, resources and information for children and families and other stakeholders.
  7. Recruitment of Metis care givers.
  8. Assist MNA Regions with capacity building opportunities with the development of Metis Children and Family Services (MCFS), program development, service providers, contracts etc.
  9. Department attends the MCFS Provincial Board hearings.
  10. Engage with Metis communities and Elders regarding their input on community development activities.
