Promoting Healthy Living
The MNA is implementing a number of critical health promotion initiatives focused on improving the health and wellness of community members.  Current initiatives include:

The MNA Metis Public Health Surveillance Initiative.  Supported by the Public Health Agency of Canada, and working in cooperation with Alberta Health, this project will identify health data specific to Metis.  As there is limited Metis-specific health data currently available, so the goal of the initiative is to establish linkages between Alberta Health records and the MNA membership registry.

The MNA Diabetes Initiative:  Empowering Metis Families - Tools for Success in Healthy Living.  Supported by the Aboriginal Diabetes Initiative and Health Canada, this initiative, now in its 8th year, promotes healthy living and diabetes awareness.  Expected results include increased diabetes information, capacity and personal development  for Metis children, youth and leadership.  Further goals include increasing capacity of the MNA Health Committee, with members  participating in the design, development and delivery of a communication plan, an evaluation plan and a diabetes health information tool (The Healthy Metis Families Kit).  Another goal is increased lobbying efforts for a "Stop the pop, juice and energy drinks" campaign in schools and MNA gatherings.

The MNA Hepatitis C Initiative: Raising Awareness for Community Leaders.

Supported by the Public Health Agency of Canada, the goal of this initiative is to increase awareness about Hepatitis C in the Metis community by providing current, relevant and accurate information about Hepatitis C prevention and methods to reduce harm associated with the disease.

The MNA "Healthy Kids Making Healthy Choices" Initiative.  Supported by the Public Health Agency of Canada, this initiative's goals are to increase awareness of the value of physical activity and healthy eating among Metis children and youth, and leading after-school sport and fitness activities.
